The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) announced, during an inaugural session held in Guayaquil, the launch of the Energy Working Group. This consultation platform aims to drive the shrimp sector’s transition towards cleaner energy sources and to strengthen the energy security of a strategic industry for the Ecuadorian economy.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Corporation for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (CORPEI), brings together producers, processors, feed suppliers, and public authorities. Its goal is to develop a practical and adaptable roadmap that will allow the shrimp sector to diversify its energy mix and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

“The shrimp sector, the country’s main source of foreign currency and largest private employer, needs stable and reliable energy to support its growth and long-term viability. Private investments and close coordination with the authorities are essential to advance energy projects,” emphasized José Antonio Camposano, Executive President of the CNA.

For Pamela Nath, Director of SSP, the energy transition is no longer only an environmental commitment:“It has now become a key strategy to strengthen competitiveness and modernize the shrimp sector. It is crucial to remove barriers, establish clear regulatory frameworks, and ensure stability that builds confidence and fosters investment.”

The first phase of the action plan, which brought together more than 30 participants, focused on identifying obstacles to a rapid transition in farming areas. The results will guide the establishment of regulatory and operational mechanisms to ensure greater energy reliability.

For his part, Eduardo Egas, Executive President of CORPEI, stressed the need for a shared vision:

“The future of the sector depends on its ability to adopt cleaner and more efficient energy sources. With the Energy Working Group, we aim to coordinate these efforts, remove obstacles, and attract investments to accelerate the sector’s transformation.”
