The Pan-African Farmers’ Organization (PAFO) held a press conference following the closing of its 7th General Assembly, which took place from 8 to 12 December 2025 in Dakar, Senegal.

Held under the theme “Transforming PAFO Governance for Sustainability,” this continental meeting provided a strategic platform for dialogue and major decision-making for the future of the organization.

On this occasion, PAFO expressed its deep appreciation to the Senegalese authorities for all the political and institutional arrangements that made the successful organization of this General Assembly possible. Gratitude was also extended to technical and financial partners whose continued support enabled PAFO to effectively implement its activities and continue supporting agriculture despite numerous challenges.

PAFO also acknowledged the commitment of the technical teams, the Executive Secretariat, the Regional Farmers’ Professional Organizations, as well as the leading role played by the National Council for Rural Cooperation and Consultation (CNCR) for its availability, support, and active contributions. Special recognition was given to the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock (MASAE) for his availability and sustained commitment to farmers’ organizations. In this regard, producers’ organizations unanimously mandated PAFO to undertake steps to secure the Minister’s acceptance to serve as PAFO Goodwill Ambassador.

Over the course of five days, the General Assembly brought together PAFO members, a continental platform representing more than 80 million farmers across Africa. For over 15 years, PAFO has been promoting the defense of farmers’ organizations and their members, strengthening governance, and advocating for sustainable and inclusive food systems.

Several key highlights marked this 7th General Assembly, including the opening ceremony presided over by the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture, the organization of thematic panels, and technical discussions focusing on agriculture, youth, women, and the role of partnerships.

One of the major moments was the Women’s Forum, which focused on governance, the role of women in mechanization, innovation, and leadership, as well as strengthening the future of PAFO’s women’s platform. Field visits also provided opportunities for farmers’ organizations to express their realities and share experiences related to resilience.

The General Assembly was further marked by the celebration of PAFO’s 15th anniversarypublic feedback sessions, the assessment of results and achievements, the review of the information management system, and interactive sessions for dialogue, working discussions, and proposals.

Finally, statutory sessions were dedicated to the review of technical reports, the 2023–2024 audits, the admission of new members, and the election of the new Board of Directors, paving the way for a new leadership team tasked with steering PAFO toward future challenges.
