Senegal reaffirmed in New York its unwavering commitment to promoting women’s rights and gender equality during the High-Level Week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held from September 22 to 30, 2025, under the theme: “Better Together: Over 80 Years Serving Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”This session coincides with two major anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN and the 30th anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing (1995), which led to the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action—still considered today the most comprehensive global framework for gender equality.A Strong Statement from the Head of StateSenegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye spoke at the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Conference, alongside several heads of state and government. In a solemn declaration, he emphasized that “equality is a moral and universal imperative” and called for collective action against violence and discrimination toward women. The Head of State also highlighted that Senegal, often cited as an example in West Africa for its gender equality policies (such as the 2010 parity law and the integration of women into the army), intends to continue its efforts to consolidate these achievements. In the same spirit, Ms. Maimouna Dieye, Minister of Family, Social Action, and Solidarity, represented Senegal at the High-Level Ministerial Meeting on the theme: “Deepening Commitments on Women, Peace, and Security: Innovate and Adapt to Ensure Peace and Security.”She praised the work of UN Women and underscored the central role of women as drivers of stability and social cohesion. She stressed the need to strengthen women’s rights protection, enhance their security, and promote their leadership through structural reforms and targeted programs.“Women’s security is a matter of accountability that requires global collective efforts and active international solidarity,” the minister declared, while urging the international community to increase partnerships to guarantee women greater justice, security, and equality.Vision Senegal 2050: An Inclusive FutureThis vision, highlighted in the speech, places women and girls at the heart of stability and development. It is reflected in public policies aimed at promoting their economic, inclusive, and sustainable empowerment.Senegal thus confirms its determination to remain a key actor in advancing gender equality and to contribute, alongside the United Nations and the international community, to building a fairer and more equitable future for all.Babacar sene journal Agropasteur
